Longhorned Beetles Use Timing To Find Mates 

For us humans, meeting that special someone often comes down to timing, and it turns out – the same goes for longhorned beetle.

According to a new study published in the Journal of Chemical Ecology, male longhorned beetles from various species time the release of their mating pheromones at different times during the day or year to minimize sending mixed signals to female beetles.

“We found that beetles that produce the same pheromone are active at different times of day — and that beetles that are active at the same time of day produce different pheromones,” study author Robert F. Mitchell, an insect researcher at the University of Arizona, said in a press release.

“Smell is an under appreciated sense in people — but when you talk about insects, many ‘see’ their world in chemicals,” Mitchell added. “The most common thing they say with pheromones is, ‘I’m looking for a mate.’”

Cerberus: Legendary Hell Hound Of The Underworld 

In ancient Greek mythology, there exists a three headed dog called Cerberus that guards the entrance to Hades, a misty and gloomy underworld in which spirits of the dead are permitted to enter but none are allowed to leave.

In the ancient world, dogs were often depicted as wild animals that defied domestication, roamed the streets in packs and scavenged on the edge of town.

 The mythical Cerberus incorporated not only the feared qualities of the ancient canine, but was a strange mixture of several creatures in one and a nightmarish sight to behold.

Rich People Will Become Immortal ‘God-Like’ Cyborgs In 200 Years – Historian 

Rich people living 200 years from now are likely to become “god-like” immortal cyborgs, while the poor will die out, an historian has claimed.

Yuval Noah Harari, a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, said the merger of humans and machines would be the greatest evolution since the appearance of life.

He added the greatest minds in computer engineering already believe death is a mere technological problem with a solution.

Harari said advances in technology will enable humans to become god-like creatures, as different from today’s humans as chimpanzees are from us.

The historian is author of the acclaimed Sapiens: A Brief History of Human Kind, a book which has already been translated into more than 30 languages.

Harari was speaking at the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts in Wales, one of the UK’s most prominent cultural events.

What’s In This ‘Dark’ Globular Star Cluster? 

While conducting studies using the ESO’s Very Large Telescope in Chile, a team of astronomers recently discovered an unusual, overstuffed type of globular star clusters in orbit around the giant elliptical galaxy Centaurus A (NGC 5128) that may be packed with dark matter.

The Observatory refers to these objects as a new class of “dark” globular star clusters, and many are brighter and more massive than the approximately 150 clusters currently orbiting the Milky Way. The clusters may contain a tremendous amount of dark matter, as mentioned above, or they may have a massive black hole hidden in their midst, according to Space.com.

“Globular clusters and their constituent stars are keys to understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies,” explained lead author Matt Taylor, a Ph. D. student at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile whose work has been published by The Astrophysical Journal.

Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana: A Treasure Trove Of Ancient Manuscripts 

The main public square of the Italian city of Venice is the Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square).

Around this square are some of the most recognizable buildings in Venice.The most famous of these are the Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco (St. Mark’s Basilica) and its iconic bell tower, the Campanile di San Marco (St. Mark’s Campanile).

 As St. Mark is the patron saint of the city, it is little wonder that many of the public buildings in Venice are named after him. Another building on the Piazza San Marco named after the city’s patron saint is the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana (the National Library of St. Mark’s).  

The Biblioteca Marciana is located at the end of the Piazza San Marco, and separated from the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) by the Piazzetta San Marco. This building, which symbolizes the city’s wealth and tradition of public investment in intellectual and artistic pursuits, was designed by the Italian architect, Jacopo Sansovino.

The Ancient Egyptian Civilization, Thousands Of Years Older Than Previously Thought  

Some evidence casts doubt on the actual chronology of Egyptian pharaohs.

The Turin King List, also known as the Turin Royal Canon, raises many questions that science does not seem to accept. Despite attempts at reconstruction, approximately 50% of the papyrus remains missing. This papyrus as presently constituted is 1.7 m long and 0.41 m wide, broken into over 160 fragments.

The Egyptian hieratic papyrus thought to date from the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II contradicts the established dates and chronologies on the Egyptian world. Researchers are coming across great amount of information which suggests that Egypt is much older than what archaeology and history are telling us.

 The Turin King List is currently located over 3000 kilometers from the land of the Pharaohs, deposited in the Egyptian museum in Turin, Italy. It was discovered in 1822 by Bernardino Drovetti in the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes. The list was translated by Jean-François Champollion, known primarily as the decipherer of the Egyptian hieroglyphs and a founding figure in the field of Egyptology.
